Evaluation

To begin, I will evaluate the production created in this unit for the school website for our client , the school head teacher. Firstly, looking at the constraints we had when dealing with time management , availability of interviewees, financial and legal limitations, reaching requirements of our client and communicating well with peers when putting ideas across. In addition, improving on areas of concern raised by our client when carrying out the focus group. 

The first major drawback we faced was the time management of the pre-production , production and post production stages of this production. In during pre-production we faced difficulties of completing pre-production documents such as the shooting script, production schedule and other pieces due to some of us including myself having upcoming exams which was putting stress of us and thus having an effect on our contribution to work in media. However, once we'd completed our exams, we quickly got back into working with our peers in finishing up the pre-production documents and starting the filming of the production. 
In order to save ourselves time, we allocated roles to each member of our class so that everyone was equally involved. This meant that we were moving on to post-production during filming and so could edit as we filmed each shot, therefore saving time. This means that although at the beginning we found time management difficult, by the end of the filming stage we were quite stable in terms of time.

Additionally, another thing which took a toll on the pace of our progress with this production was the availability of people to interview, particularly sixth form students. This is because at the time of filming most sixth formers were taking exams or had already taken them, and so were heavily busy. This meant that the sixth form was either empty or had less than a dozen students in it. This made the filming take much longer than need be as we were missing a major section of the video, this being the sixth form section. 
To overcome this constraint, we used thought of a tactical way of showing the sixth form, with students in it by filming ourselves socializing , in lessons, in seminars etc. 

In terms of our client, this being our head teacher, we carried out a 'first client interview' in order to discuss the brief with him and find out what he is expecting from us, when producing this production. At the start of the interview, we presented our initial ideas to our client, taking it in turns to explain what our thoughts were in terms of the structure, camera language, editing, lighting, interviews etc. Once finished, our client then gave us his view on what he thinks of our ideas as well as what he wants to see in the production.  Some of the expectations were that we should aim to promote the school to prospective students , existing students and prospect parents. He did not want us to ''sell'' the school, by exaggerating on how 'good' the school is or that the school is the 'best' school. 
Another constraint we faced was the communication between the group. This had an effect on a lot of aspects of our progress as it meant that people were disagreeing on things such as their roles and contribution to the production. 

The financial set backs that we had were also important to consider when producing our production, because we did not receive any money from the school to go towards the production, which meant that we just had to use the equipment provided for us in school , these are the camera and tripod and editing software on the macs in order to create the production. Having said this, I don't think that we really needed financial support to complete this production, in other terms the production would still have been completed with or without financial support. However, I also think that if we did have access to some funding, it would be beneficial as we could use it to buy a better quality camera or a prop such as a micro phone.



Lastly, legal constraints have to also be taken into account as we were required to film classrooms with active lessons. This meant that we needed to have the consent and permission of the students in the lessons as well as the teachers, but as we were already behind schedule we decided to not waste time by asking each individual student but rather the teacher in charge of the lesson. However, some teachers refused to have them or their lessons being filmed which put a strain on the filming. Other things we needed to take into account were the

Production Log- 3

This week my classmates and I have begun editing the school video, making sure that we chop down any long footage that does not need to go on for too long. We have taken shots of nearly every thing according to the shooting script, these will all be uploaded on to the editing timeline and edited down into short consistent clips, so that it is kept sweat and short for the audience to see. Our next steps would be to carry on editing and then carry out our first client feedback on the rough draft we have done.

Production Log-2

This week my classmates and I went around the school filming the first of our shots for the school video. These were some interviews of teachers asking them the same questions. We also took some establishing shots of the school from outside and the school from inside in order to see the students going to and from their lessons. Although we have mostly stuck to our shooting script, there have been some things that we've decided to change and move around, because we felt it would work better that way.

This is the location recce for our production. We have chosen to film in school because the video is about the school, and will go on the school website, as we agreed with our client. As you can see from the pictures we are filming in various rooms in the lower school as well as the sixth form in order to get a wide scope of lessons and activities that go on in the school. From those we have chosen the lunch hall as seen above, where we will get shots of the lunch time vibe. There are also shots that will be taken in rooms such as the art room, the PE hall, the food tech room and the drama room so that we can show parents that as well as academics there are also creative arts subjects available and that the school embarks on encouraging students to take part in one or two of these subjects. In terms of the sixth form, we are again going to show various shots of different subjects as well as interviews with teachers, this will convey to the viewer that Lilian Baylis Sixth Form is also a welcoming and successful place since it opened 4 years ago.
